Skin Care Guru And Entrepreneur Sophia Sylvester is Giving Everyone A Taste Of Her Town With, ‘Brooklyn Flavors’

From home skin care guru to entrepreneur, the woman you see above is the brain and fingers behind Brooklyn Flavors. This natural hand-made skin care company is built around aromas that reflect the uniqueness of every neighborhood in Brooklyn. Using demographic research of each areas heritage and local culture, this skin care line is deeply rooted to serve up nothing other than the authentic essence each part of Brooklyn has to offer.

Inspired by her children and the intense desire to take control of her life, Sophia Sylvester took a huge leap of faith and quit her job in 2003. She admits, “I wanted to spend more time with my children and work from home. I was a Medical Assistant and employed for someone else and I felt a strong compunction to be my own boss.” But before Brooklyn Flavors Skin Care products existed, Sophia was in her kitchen making scented candles for fun, and of course, to help make ends meet. Then in 2006, after creating natural skin care products as a solution for her children’s severe dry skin, Sophia realized that she had something far bigger than just a home remedy. Using her mother’s expertise when it comes to natural ingredients to create quality products, Sylvester has found a way to help others avoid toxic drugstore brands, while making easy, but hard money.

After showing off her products at street fairs and pop-up booths, Sophia had successfully created enough buzz around her products to open up her very own store. Brooklyn Flavors features a variety of skin and bath products in 13 “flavors” based on Brooklyn neighborhoods. You can now catch the following original scents at her showroom located on Washington Avenue, just blocks north of Prospect Park:

-Bed-Stuy: An earthy blend of sandalwood, jasmine, cedarwood and patchouli.

-Brownstone: A soft sweet blend of sandalwood, cedarwood, jasmine and vanilla.

-Canarsie Cookie: Freshly baked sugar cookies with butter cream frosting, with vanilla extract.

-Carroll Gardens: A herbaceous blend of sandalwood and ginger.

-Church Avenue: Juicy mango, papaya, jasmine peach and coconut.

-Clinton Hill: A sweet delicious blend of pears, raspberries and strawberries.

-Crown Heights A sweet earthy blend of mint leaves and patchouli.

-Fort Greene: A soft fresh citrus blend of fruits and mint.

-Kensington: Floral meets earthy with a blend of lavender and patchouli.

-Park Slope: A floral mix of lavender, rose, jasmine and gardenia.

-Prospect Heights: A soft floral blend of cherry, ylang, ylang and jasmine.

-Red Hook: A red juicy mix of sweet berries, peaches, strawberries, oranges, coconuts and vanilla.

-Who’s Your Daddy: while not a Brooklyn aroma, this popular blend sandalwood, vanilla and musk was designed specifically for Sylvester’s male customer.

So what’s next for this Medical Assistant turned Entrepreneur??? Brooklyn Flavors just went international with products now being sold in Osaka, Japan. And why stop there? According to Pix11, the next neighborhoods to get the “flavors” treatment will be Williamsburg and Greenpoint.

This is awesome. Talk about turning a hobby into a paycheck! Kudos to Sophia Sylvester for taking control of her life and living out her vision. I hope this inspires someone else to do the same.
